TURN

Turn by The Wombats inspired this illustration.

The song is actually a beautifully written love song. It contains the best compliment you can give someone – at least in my eyes: "I love the way your brain works".

It describes how the narrator misses several situations and how he loves to see the world turn in the other person's eyes and how the person turned the narrator's world.

What makes me very emotional about this song, and makes me cry every time I hear it live, is the bittersweetness. You hear how much the narrator loves the special moments he describes. And how much he misses them. How many memories this brings back. The music of this track supports this feeling immensely.

When I listen to this song, I remember how I strolled around Alexandra Palace in London. The place which inspired my Artist Name.

When the pandemic happened, I lived in London, in Muswell Hill, right next to Ally Pally. And I used to put music on my ears and wander around. It was a very emotional time for me. Everything I was hoping to find in London was apparently not going to happen. Instead, the demons I tried to run from, were taking over control again. Music gave me some kind of stability, listening to the same playlist everyday was one of the rare controllable things during these trying times.

There is one line, which especially inspired this scene:

"Like listening to Drake at your best friend's swimming pool

Floating anti-clockwise in a red mushroom"

Later on the famous line "Screaming at the moon in black lipstick" appears, that's why the girl has black lipstick and the moon reflects in the water.

The little OEJ on the girls T-Shirt is a reference to One Eyed Jack's, Bastille's recording studio, where this song was recorded.

Fun Fact: When I looked up the lyrics it said "Running with the wolf pack when your legs are tied" so that's why the girl's legs are tied. It's also easier than drawing tired legs.
